HOW TO PRAY FOR A MIRACLE

Luke 18:35–43 (NLT)

Much of life is beyond our control. Sometimes your best efforts aren't good enough. Sometimes the only thing that will work is a miracle.

God wants to work miracles in our lives.

1. BE PASSIONATE Put your whole heart into it. Pray with intensity, feeling, and urgency. The blind man shouted, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” (v. 38) — he prayed with passion.

Many of us fall into perfunctory praying — just mouthing words without heart (vain repetitions). It is better to have heart without words than words without heart.

Jeremiah 29:13 — “You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.”

God often uses pain to teach us passionate praying. When pain comes, prayer becomes intense — but we must learn to pray with passion even when pain is not present.

2. PRAY PERSISTENTLY Keep on praying until the miracle happens. The crowd yelled, “Be quiet!” — but he only shouted louder (v. 39).

Persistence shows what we really care about.

Colossians 4:2 (GNB) — “Be persistent in prayer, and keep alert as you pray, giving thanks to God.” Jesus said: “Keep on asking, keep on knocking, keep on seeking.”

3. BE PRECISE Be specific — tell God exactly what you want in detail. Vague prayers get vague answers.

When Jesus asked, “What do you want me to do for you?” the man said, “Lord, I want to see!” (v. 41) — clear and precise.

James 4:2 — “You have not because you ask not.”

Why are we vague? Because precise praying takes time, thought, self-examination, and energy — vague praying is lazy praying.

Key to being precise: Write it down! Keep a prayer list. Record specific requests and then record the answers

4. BE POSITIVE Expect God to act. Trust Him to answer. Jesus said, “Your faith has healed you” (made you well) (v. 42).

A little faith in a big God gets big answers. It’s not the size of your faith — it’s the size of your God.

Mark 11:24 — “Whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you will receive it and it will be yours.”

Secret to being positive: Get into God’s Word and claim His promises Underline them, highlight them, and use them in prayer. Philippians 4:19 — “My God shall supply all your needs in Christ Jesus.” — They’re already paid for; we must claim them.

5. BE GRATEFUL (or PRAISEFUL) When the miracle happens, express gratitude. After receiving his sight, the man followed Jesus, glorifying God — and the crowd praised God too (v. 43).

After any answer to prayer, do two things: Follow Jesus and give thanks to God.

Of the ten lepers Jesus healed, only one came back to thank Him.

Maintain an attitude of gratitude while asking — “Thank You, Lord, for what You’ve already done and what You’re going to do.”

Be as precise in thanking as in asking — name specific blessings. Gratitude should be the permanent lifestyle of a believer. “Rejoice in the Lord always.”

Practical Assignment Where do you need a miracle right now? Take time this week to write down one specific request for your life/family (e.g., “God, provide _______________ by _______________ date” or “Heal _______________ in this specific way”). Be passionate • persistent • precise • positive • grateful.
