MOVING FROM ORDINARY TO EXTRAORDINARY: IT’S YOUR CHOICE!
Hebrews 11:23–27 (ESV) By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden for
three months by his parents, because they saw that the child was beautiful,
and they were not afraid of the king’s edict. 24 By faith Moses, when he was
grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, 25 choosing
rather to be mistreated with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting
pleasures of sin. 26 He considered the reproach of Christ greater wealth
than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking to the reward. 27 By faith he
left Egypt, not being afraid of the anger of the king, for he endured as
seeing him who is invisible.
Moses settled four key issues everyone must face:
1. The issue of identity – Who am I?
2. The issue of responsibility – What am I going to do with my life?
3. The issue of priority – What is really the most important thing in life?
4. The issue of difficulty – How much am I willing to commit to what I’m
going to give my life for?
1. DISCOVER WHAT GOD MADE you to be “Refused” means to disown,
reject, to leave no door open. The first secret of success is: be yourself.
2. ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR OWN LIFE Hebrews 11:25 –
Choosing rather to be mistreated with the people of God…
Three facts of life: I cannot live off of other people’s spiritual commitment.
I can’t blame others for the direction of my life. No one can ruin my life
except me.
3. ESTABLISH A VALUE SYSTEM FOR YOUR LIFE Hebrews 11:26 – He
considered the reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of
Egypt… “Considered” means to make a judgment and believe based on that
judgment. If you don’t decide what is important in your life, others will do it
for you.
The world’s value system:
1. Power and status
2. Pleasure
3. Possessions
Moses’ value system:
1. God’s purpose is more valuable than popularity.
2. People are more valuable than pleasures.
3. God’s peace is more valuable than possessions.
Motivation: “…for he was looking to the reward.” Your values are
determined by your vision.
4. YOU NEVER TAKE YOUR EYES OFF THE GOAL The secret of success is
persistence. The secret of persistence is vision. “Obstacles are what you
see when you take your eye off the goal.”
