New Life in Christ

1 John 2:18-29

“No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in them; they

cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God” (1 John 3:9).

“Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God” (1 John 4:7).

“Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves his child as well” (1 John 5:1).

John gives us three important evidences of new life in Christ. According to the Apostle John:

Evidence #1: A New certainty in Christ.

“Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves his child as well” (1 John 5:1).

“Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God (John 1:12).”

A person that experiences new life in Christ will demonstrate it by holding to

the true faith about Jesus.

“This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus

Christ has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God” (1 John 4:2-3).

Evidence #2: A New loyalty to Christ

“Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God” (1 John 4:7).

To be born of God means:

1. A loyalty of love to the Son of God.

“We love because he first loved us” (1 John 4:19).

2. A loyalty of love to the Word of God.

60% of those who claim to be believers do not believe that the Bible is the absolute truth.-

3. A loyalty of love to the Church of God.

“Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the Father loves his child as well” (1 John 5:1).

“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another” (John 13:35).

“This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to

lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that

person?” (1 John 3:16-17).

This new life should be evidenced by:

Evidence #3: New victory in Christ.

“If you know that he is righteous, you know that everyone who does what is right has been born of him” (1 John 2:29).

Because of this new life, the believer enjoys:

1. Victory over sin,

“No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in them; they

cannot go on sinning, because they have been born of God” (1 John 3:9).

2. Victory over self.

“For everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the

world, even our faith” (1 John 5:4).

3. Victory over Satan.

“We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the One who was born of God

keeps them safe, and the evil one cannot harm them” (1 John 5:18).

As a believer, does your life give evidence to new life in Christ?
