Remembering the Sacrifice, Embracing Our Purpose Introduction
Memorial Day is more than a holiday; it is a sacred moment to reflect on the
price of freedom. It reminds us of those who gave their lives in service to
their country.
As believers, we draw inspiration from their example and honor their
memory with lives of purpose, sacrifice, and spiritual commitment.
Freedom always has a cost. John 15:13 (ESV) – Greater love has no one
than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.
Just as soldiers laid down their lives, Jesus gave His life for our eternal
freedom.
Remembering inspires gratitude. Psalm 103:2–6 (ESV) – Bless the Lord, O
my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who
heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you
with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good so that your
youth is renewed like the eagle’s. The Lord works righteousness and justice
for all who are oppressed.
We must never forget that the blessings we enjoy came through someone’s
sacrifice.
True heroes live and die for a cause greater than themselves. 2 Timothy
2:3 (ESV) Share in suffering as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.
We honor their memory and our Savior by living purposefully.
Every believer is called to sacrificial living. Romans 12:1 (ESV) – I appeal
to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as
a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.
Stephen, the first martyr, gave his life for the truth of the gospel (Acts
7:54-60).
Honor is due to those who gave their lives. Romans 13:7 (ESV) Pay to all
what is owed to them: taxes to whom taxes are owed, revenue to whom
revenue is owed, respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is
owed.
We show honor by living out the values they died defending.
Righteousness exalts a nation. Proverbs 14:34.
God remembers acts of sacrifice. Hebrews 6:10.
Let us become legacy bearers. Psalm 112:6.
Abel’s righteous offering still speaks today (Hebrews 11:4).
We Also Honor the Fallen by Caring for the Living
…Every veteran struggling is a living memorial to the cost of war.
Invisible Wounds Are Real Wounds. The church must be a place of refuge...
Hope Is Our Greatest Weapon Against Despair. Psalm 34:18 – “The Lord is
close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
Let us commit today: • To remember the fallen. • To fight for the living. To
bring light into the darkness... …reflect on the ultimate sacrifice of Christ.
