"Choosing Faith: Moses' Model of Rejecting the World and Embracing
God's Way"
Hebrews 11:23–28 By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden
for three months by his parents, because they saw that the child was
beautiful, and they were not afraid of the king’s edict. 24 By faith
Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of
Pharaoh’s daughter, 25 choosing rather to be mistreated with the
people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. 26 He
considered the reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures
of Egypt, for he was looking to the reward. 27 By faith he left Egypt,
not being afraid of the anger of the king, for he endured as seeing
him who is invisible. 28 By faith he kept the Passover and sprinkled
the blood, so that the Destroyer of the firstborn might not touch
them.
Deuteronomy 30:19 (NKJV) I call heaven and earth as witnesses
today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing
and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your
descendants may live;
Joshua 24:15 (NKJV) And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord,
choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the
gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the
River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as
for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” or which "god" we
follow
1 Kings 18:21 Then Elijah stood in front of them and said, “How
much longer will you waver, hobbling between two opinions? If the
Lord is God, follow him! But if Baal is God, then follow him!” But the
people were completely silent.
Moses stands as a monumental model for us, demonstrating faith
through his choices.
His life shows faith in action: rejecting what is seen (the world) and
accepting what is unseen (God's promises).
Faith Rejects the World's Prestige (v. 24)
Acts 7:25 For he supposed that his brethren would have understood
that God would deliver them by his hand, but they did not
understand.
Faith Rejects the World's Pleasure (v. 25)
Sin's pleasures are temporary, leading to lasting consequences
Psalm 73:2–19 But as for me, I almost lost my footing. My feet were
slipping, and I was almost gone. 3 For I envied the proud when I saw
them prosper despite their wickedness. 4 They seem to live such
painless lives; their bodies are so healthy and strong. 5 They don’t
have troubles like other people; they’re not plagued with problems
like everyone else. 6 They wear pride like a jeweled necklace and
clothe themselves with cruelty. 7 These fat cats have everything their
hearts could ever wish for! 8 They scoff and speak only evil; in their
pride they seek to crush others. 9 They boast against the very
heavens, and their words strut throughout the earth. 10 And so the
people are dismayed and confused, drinking in all their words.
11 “What does God know?” they ask. “Does the Most High even know
what’s happening?” 12 Look at these wicked people— enjoying a life
of ease while their riches multiply. 13 Did I keep my heart pure for
nothing? Did I keep myself innocent for no reason? 14 I get nothing
but trouble all day long; every morning brings me pain. 15 If I had
really spoken this way to others, I would have been a traitor to your
people. 16 So I tried to understand why the wicked prosper. But what
a difficult task it is! 17 Then I went into your sanctuary, O God, and I
finally understood the destiny of the wicked. 18 Truly, you put them
on a slippery path and send them sliding over the cliff to destruction.
19 In an instant they are destroyed, completely swept away by
terrors.
Faith chooses eternal joy and holiness over fleeting worldly fun,
denying self to follow God
Luke 9:23 And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let
him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.
1 John 2:15–17 Do not love this world nor the things it offers you,
for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father
in you. 16 For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a
craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and
possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world.
17 And this world is fading away, along with everything that people
crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.
Faith Rejects the World's Plenty (v. 26)
Philippians 2:5–8 You must have the same attitude that Christ Jesus
had. 6 Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as
something to cling to. 7 Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he
took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being.
When he appeared in human form, 8 he humbled himself in obedience
to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.
Faith looks beyond material treasures to unseen eternal rewards,
breaking with worldly deceitfulness
Matthew 13:22 The seed that fell among the thorns represents those
who hear God’s word, but all too quickly the message is crowded out
by the worries of this life and the lure of wealth, so no fruit is
produced.
Faith Rejects the World's Pressure (v. 27)
Proverbs 29:25 (GNB) It is dangerous to be concerned with what
others think of you, but if you trust the Lord, you are safe.
Faith endures pressure by focusing on the unseen God, enabling
boldness in the face of opposition.
Faith Accepts the Lord's Plans (v. 23)
Faith Accepts the Lord's Provision (v. 28)
Faith Accepts the Lord's Promises
Evaluate Your Choices Daily. Reflect on current circumstances
(career, relationships, decisions) as unique opportunities. Ask: Am I
choosing God's way (truth, righteousness) or the world's (flesh,
Satan)?
Reject Worldly Allure in Specific Areas.
Prioritize heavenly treasures over material wealth; practice
generosity, tithing, or simplifying life to focus on God's rewards.
Face fears boldly by "seeing the unseen God" through daily Scripture
and prayer.
Embrace God's Direction Actively.
Parents: Instill God's truths in your children early,
Small groups: Discuss personal "Egypt" temptations and commit to
mutual encouragement.
This week, identify one worldly thing to reject and one godly step to
accept. Share with a friend for accountability.
