The Mind and Your Life and Relationships

Matthew 22:37–38 (NKJV) “Jesus said to him, “ ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment.”

Philippians 2:5 (NKJV) “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus,…”

Colossians 3:1–3 (NKJV) If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God.

Thoughts have consequences

Romans 12:2 (NKJV) And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Philippians 2:5 (NKJV) “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus,…”

Changing our thought life to change our own lives and our relational lives, our work lives, our home lives starts and ends with a true relationship with Jesus.

Life renewal begins as we yield to the Spirit, who leads us in the way of Jesus and renews our minds

Philippians 2:13 for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.

Ephesians 4:23 Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes.

Set Your Mind Above

The things that we think about most have the power to shape us the most.

The thoughts that we have, that occupy our mind that are always what is front and center in our brains, that determines so much of our lives.

We have to be picky about what thoughts we're allowing to have our full focus, because our thoughts determines so much of our lives.

Colossians 3:5 “Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.”

Our thoughts and our focus on them are connected to our hearts.

Your thought focus shapes your beliefs and it shapes your actions, but it also reveals your gods.

Colossians 3:9b–10 “…seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.

My worth comes from the fact that I'm a child of God through Christ.

Whatever gets your focus, gets you.

"Since, then, you have been raised with Christ"

This is not something we do on our own power.

But to root out and eliminate the gods that you trust and serve—that's the power of the Holy Spirit at work in you.

Where is your focus going right now?

What are the thoughts that consume your mind?

What do you dwell on?

What do you fixate on?

What keeps you up at night?

What are those thoughts?

How is that shaping your life?
